PS to viewable PDF

I mostly run PS files.  Whenever there is an issue, I open the PS file with Adobe.  The PS file is supposed to be set up as 17x12, but when I view the file it comes up as 12x17.  Why does this happen? The PS file prints fine.

As Acrobat is interpreting your postscript file, somewhere, there appears to be the command to create the art board at the specified orientation. You can't distinguish a rotated landscape and portrait in a print, when you only look at the paper output, and the print looks fine.
