I have some old software that is using ps2ps and tiff2ps to create postscript for faxing.
The versions I have is very old and looking for something that can run on Ubuntu.
Is this even a thing any more?    Is PostScript dead?

PostScript is not dead. The printer "Adobe PDF" uses PostScript.

Hi there

Hope you are doing well and thanks for reaching out.

You're not alone in wondering about this—PostScript isn’t as common as it used to be, but it’s not completely “dead.” It’s still used in some older systems and specific workflows, like yours.

For tools like ps2ps and tiff2ps, they’re part of a package called Ghostscript, which is still available and works on Ubuntu.

While you can keep using PostScript, it might be a good time to consider whether switching to PDFs or other modern formats would improve your workflow.

Hope this information will help

What tool can I use to see a rendered PS file on a Mac?   Even Adobe Acrobat reader doesn't support a .ps file.

Hello!

I hope you are doing well.

As suggested by our community expert, you can use the printer Acrobat Adobe PDF which uses the postscript. If you have Acrobat Pro, use Distiller (File > Create PDF > PostScript/EPS) to convert PS files to PDF. See the supported file formats for Acrobat: https://adobe.ly/4i08FhF

PostScript (.ps) is primarily a print-focused format, while PDF is its successor for digital viewing. Adobe recommends conversion for compatibility. See this article for more information: https://adobe.ly/41BO39R

Thanks,

Anand Sri.
