Punjabi compatible fonts?

I'm looking for recommendations on Punjabi compatible fonts:

I'm working on foreign language InDesign documents that must become accessible PDFs.

The translator company applied Noto Sans Gurmukhi to the Punjabi ID file. This typeface is compatible with several other Asian languages. However, for Punjabi, it presents character encoding issues.

I've applied Punjabi lang to each paragraph style and then set the Acrobat lang to pa. This results in the charcter encoding issue.

I've also applied "no language" to the each paragraph stytle and the sent the Acrobat lang to pa. This results in the character encoding issue.

When you say encoding issue, is with the visible display of the file contents or when trying to edit the file?

Here's a few suggestions that might work:

Ensure that you have the font properly embedded in your PDF to prevent encoding issues. When exporting to PDF from InDesign, the font should be embedded in the PDF file. This ensures that the correct characters will display even on systems that don’t have the specific font installed.

Solution: When exporting from InDesign to PDF, make sure to check the “Subset Fonts when Percent of Characters Used is Less than: 100%” option under Advanced settings in the export dialog. This ensures that all necessary characters are included, which may help with the encoding problem.

Sometimes, certain glyphs (like ligatures or special characters) might not display correctly depending on the font and its encoding.

Solution: Use InDesign’s Glyphs panel to insert any missing characters directly into the document. This will ensure that the correct characters are displayed, and it might help with encoding issues.

Also, ensure that you are on the latest version of the application (2024.005.20414) for the best experience.
