Question about older version of Acrobat ( 9 pro)

*Full disclosure*

I used Copilot to help me write this post.

I'm a black and white print press operator working with a Canon VarioPrint 6180 using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro on a Windows 10 workstation (Version 22H2, OS Build 19045.5965). I’ve created several custom print job templates using the Océ VarioPrint 6180 PS3 US V7 driver, which are essential for our daily production workflow.

I’m looking for a reliable method to back up these templates so they can be restored or transferred to another workstation if needed. These templates include specific settings for duplexing, paper trays, finishing, and job ticketing that are critical to our press operations.

Has anyone here successfully backed up and restored these types of templates? If so:

  • Where are these templates stored on the system?
  • Can they be exported or saved externally?
  • Are there any compatibility concerns when restoring them on another machine with the same driver and Acrobat version?

I would also like to add that I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post. This may be something I need to ask on the Canon heplpdesk/community board.

Any guidance or best practices would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!

After doing some quick research, it seems that there are a couple of ways to define "template" for the VarioPrint 6180.

One way is a machine-specific adaptation of paper sizes and settings, independent of the sheet sizes run through the device. These settings are loaded into the printer software/firmware, and the documentation I looked at seems to be back-and-forth on whether the driver can access those printer-specific settings or whether that might have to be re-accomplished to get the same results with a new system/software install.

The other way is to use PDFs or application-specific "templates" to serve page trim/bleed, folding/scoring marks, etc. In that case, the files are "named" and can be found through a This PC search in Windows 10 File Explorer, no matter where they may be located. If you know the file name(s) for your PDF or application specific templates (e.g. - "Business Card 5-up") Windows can find them for you.

We don't have enough information here to determine which type of "template" you're talking about here, so I can't provide you a definitive answer. Hopefully this response provides enough of a trail you can follow to determine which course of action will be best for your upgrade situation.

Hope this helps,

@Randy Hagan

This is more information than I had an hour ago and now I have a place to start.

Thank you so much
