Hi @Schmelvi14
Hope you are doing well and thanks for bringing this up. The sporadic nature of this one makes it a bit tricky to pin down right away, so before we dive into fixes, a few quick questions to help narrow things down:
Which version of Adobe Acrobat are you running? You can check under Menu > Help > About Adobe Acrobat.
Which version of Outlook and Windows are you on?
When the PDF attachment skips printing, do you see any error message at all, or does Outlook just silently do nothing?
Does the issue happen with all PDF attachments, or only specific ones? For example, does it happen with smaller PDFs but not larger ones, or vice versa?
Is Adobe Acrobat set as your default PDF handler in Windows? You can check under Settings > Apps > Default apps.
That said, this is a well-known interaction between Outlook's Quick Print and Acrobat, the root cause in most cases is that Outlook deletes the temporary PDF file before Acrobat has finished printing it, which is why the issue is sporadic rather than consistent.
Let's work through this together.
Step 1: Confirm Acrobat is up to date
First things first. Open Acrobat, go to Help > Check for Updates, and restart. 26.001.21771 Planned update, Aug 01, 2026 Adobe's official guidance on resolving print errors, including outdated versions, is covered here: Fix PDF printing errors in Acrobat.
Step 2: Apply the Outlook registry fix for temporary file deletion
This is the most common fix for this exact symptom. Outlook is deleting the temp file for the attachment before Acrobat can finish processing it. Microsoft has published a workaround that tells Outlook to wait longer before cleaning up: Quick Print stops printing PDF attachments in Outlook Desktop. Please give it a try and see if that helps.
Step 3: Check whether the "New Acrobat Experience" is interfering
In Acrobat, go to View and look for the option to turn off the New Acrobat Experience (it may appear as "Turn off new Acrobat"). Restart Acrobat and test Quick Print again.
Step 4: Try printing as an image
If a specific PDF seems to be causing the issue, try this as a test. Save the attachment locally first, open it in Acrobat, then go to File > Print. In the Print dialog, select Advanced and check Print as Image, then hit Print. This bypasses any rendering complexity in the PDF and can confirm whether the file itself is part of the problem. Adobe's official reference for this: Fix PDF printing errors in Acrobat.
Step 5: Clear Outlook's temporary files
Old or corrupted temp files can contribute to this. Close Outlook, then navigate to:
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.Outlook
Select all files with Ctrl + A and delete them. Reopen Outlook and test.
Step 6: Verify there's only one PDF handler installed
Try setting Adobe Acrobat as the exclusive default PDF handler via Windows Settings > Apps > Default Apps, and make sure the other is not registered for .pdf files. Adobe's guide on setting Acrobat as the default: Set Acrobat as the default PDF program.
Let us know how it goes.
