Random Symbols...

After editing a lengthy PDF file, and saving my changes, I noticed that a lot of the information randomly changed to symbols throughout the document -

What can I do to get my information back without manually making the changes again?

Thanks!

Did your edits involve merging pages from different source documents? If so, take a look at this potential workaround - also take a look at the comments, some of them also contain good information: Workaround for Missing Characters After Merging PDF Files

Ah yes, that looks like you may have a font embedding problem. PDFs were not designed to be edited extensively. And I suspect maybe those fonts aren’t embedded on your computer, or ligatures are being used, and so when the PDF gets edited, Acrobat doesn’t know what to do with the ligatures.

You really need to go back to the original source file (InDesign, Word, etc), and make the edits there and reexport the PDF. Sorry!
