Read Out Loud interprets numbers wrong

Hi,

I am using the most current version of Adobe and am using Read Out Loud to give accessibility to my documents. Numbers are not spoken correctly. We have policy numbers that look like this "11-2020" but is read as "January 2020". In another document the paragraphs are numbered. When the document gets to "5.1.10" it is read as "May 1st ten" and "5.1.12" is read as “May 1st twelve". I would like to change these occurrences. How do I?

Thank you,

Diana

If your Acrobat text is defaulting to dates when using text-to-speech, it's likely because the document contains embedded date information.

Check for hidden text:
Sometimes, metadata or hidden text within a PDF can cause unexpected reading behavior. Check for any unusual formatting or hidden text in the document properties.

Read Out Loud Options:
Check if there are any settings related to date interpretation or formatting that could be causing the issue

Hi Diana,

You can use "Actual Text" to fix this.

1. In the tag tree panel, look for the <P> tag of "11-2020".

2. Assume "11-2020" is the only text inside the <P> tag container, right click the container, select and click open "Properties" window from the pop up menu.

3. In the "Actual Text" field of the Properties window, type "eleven dash twenty twenty" and click "close" to save the change.

Acrobat Read Out Loud should now read the numbers exactly like what you have entered in Actual Text field.

Do the same to the other numbers with the same issue.

However if the text "11-2020" is not alone but part of a sentence or even a paragraph in the container, do the following instead:

1. Right click the container.

2. Select and click "Copy Contents to Clipboard" in the pop up menu.

3. Right click the same container again, select and click open "Properties" window from the pop up menu.

4. In the Properties window, Command V (Mac) or Control V (PC) to paste the clipboard contents into the "Actual Text" field.

5. Change "11-2020" in the contents you have just pasted into Actual Text to "eleven dash twenty twenty".

6. Click "close" to save the change.

Acrobat should now read the numbers exactly like what you have typed in Actual Text field. Do the same to the other numbers with the same issue. You get the idea.

Hope this can help.
