Read out loud pauses between words

I see a thread complaining about this very issue but that thread is locked.

My version : Pro DC 2020.009.20063

this is a government computer, so it should be all bells and whistles.

  • The read outloud is pausing between words .  Speed has been adjusted from 150 to 250 words per min.  No change in the pause.  This issue should be resolved as this is a new version and this issue has been in previous versions.

Hi there

we are sorry for the trouble.

++ Adding to the discussion

Please try to update the application to the new version 20.009.20065 and see if that makes any difference. Go to Help > Check for Updates

I have the same slowdown between words.  My build is the latest todate Adobe Acrobat DC (21.007.20099).  I have disabled 'Use default voice' and 'Use default speech attributes'.  I can change the reading speed of each word but the spaces do not change and the inter-word delay is long.

What action can I take?

I have attached an example file.

Acrobat's Read Out Loud is not a PDF/UA compliant screen reader.

It's a piece of junk outdated programming that  does not process the content properly. And it was developed before we had accessibililty standards and guidelines, so how in the world could it know what's required.

Therefore, do not test for Sec. 508 compliance with it. It gives false poisitives and false negatives, and it lacks basic user controls.

Use a real screen reader to verify your PDF's compliance: See our blog at https://www.pubcom.com/blog/2019_04-05/checking-with-screenreaders.shtml
