Question

Rearranging reading and tag order not functioning properly

When I need to rearrange the reading order and tagging structure on a PDF, I will typically drag and drop those items into place using their corresponding right hand side bars. Suddenly I'm unable to grab and drag. Just cut and paste (which is more time consuming). Dragging and placing worked a few days ago. I’ve tried on multiple documents (some where I did drag and drop to arrange, previously). Was there some sort of change, or a setting put into place? Anyone else experiencing this?

Same problem. I used to be able to save, close, reopen and it would allow me to drag and drop and item where I wanted it to go. Lately, that trick is not working anymore. Sometimes when I drag and drop something in the middle of the list, it will go all the way to top or all the way to the bottom. I ready somewhere that it may have to due with the cache files. I really wish I could empty the cache files without getting IT involved. There has to be an easier way.

    Hi @Optimistic_skill0968

I hope you are doing well, and thanks for sharing this. I understand how frustrating it is when items you drag into place jump to the top or bottom of the list, especially when it used to work reliably.

    Could you please share:

    • The complete Acrobat version ( Help > About Adobe Acrobat) and your operating system.

    • Where you are dragging items: the Reading Order tool, or the Tags panel.

    • Whether it happens with every PDF or only specific files.

    • A short screen recording showing the steps you follow, from opening the file to dragging an item. Please hide any personal or confidential content in the file before recording.

Once we have these details, we can get this reviewed by our development team.

    Regards

    Amal

Hi there, I’ve managed to fix the issue.

    Here is what I did:

    • Press Win + R, type %localappdata%\Adobe\Acrobat, and hit Enter.
    • Locate folders such as DC or AVWebview2 and delete or rename them to force Acrobat to rebuild fresh cache files.

I just named them DCOLD and AVWebview2OLD and then restarted Acrobat. Now it works and lets me reorder the reading order within accessibility tools.

I think something must have happened when my PC tried to auto update Acrobat about a week ago.

      Hope this helps

    HP EliteBook X Flip Notebook
    Acrobat 2026.002.21901 Acrobat Pro
    Windows 11 Enterprise
Happens on all pdfs I’ve opened. I can’t video the issue as it is my work laptop but it’s basically when you use the accessibility feature when dragging and dropping the read order in the right hand side panel of the accessibility tool.

    Hi britta_8286 and magnificent_finderc30d,

Thank you for reaching out, and sorry to hear that you are experiencing an issue.

As you described, the feature worked before, and the issue started recently. To help us investigate this behaviour further, please provide the following information:

    • A short video demonstrating the steps you are taking.

    • The complete version number of Acrobat you are using.

    • The operating system on your machine.

    • Please let us know if the issue occurs with a specific PDF or with all files.

Once we have this information, we can further assess the problem.

We look forward to your response.

    Thanks,

    Meenakshi

    Hi Meenakshi,

Thank you for your response and for looking into this issue. The drag-and-drop feature was working normally before, but it recently stopped working when rearranging the reading order and tags in Acrobat. The issue appears to affect multiple PDF documents, including files where drag-and-drop worked previously.

I’ll check the Acrobat version and operating system and provide the details along with a short video demonstrating the issue.

Could you please investigate whether this behavior is related to a recent Acrobat update or a setting change and advise me on how to restore the drag-and-drop functionality? I would appreciate a solution that allows me to rearrange the reading order and tags as before, without having to cut and paste each item manually.

Thank you for your time and support. I look forward to your guidance.

    Best regards
