Redacting an embedded file from a pdf

I have a large pdf of several emails. Some of the emails have attachments.

I am looking to redact some, but not all of the email attachments. when I try to go into the actual attachment to redact, it shuts down my adobe acrobat dc. When I try to just redact one attachment without opening it, the tool removing all the metadata flattens the file so I can't open any attachments.

Is there some way to redact portions of emails and some but not all attachments?

When you say redact the attachment do you mean you want to selectively remove some, but not all, text in the attachment?  Or, do you want to just delete the entire attachment without a trace (which would not be condidered redaction)?

Selectively remove some attachments without removing others.

I'm working with long strings of emails that were converted to large pdf files. Some of those emails have attachments, which are working attachments. I'll give you an example of what I'm trying to do. In that large file, I come across an email with 2 attachments. I want to redact part of the email and eliminate one of the two attachments. I might want to redact some of the text in the second attachment but leave it to be otherwise readable.

I know I can simply redact the whole email. When I click "apply", Adobe automatically starts searching for hidden data such as metadata etc to remove. If I click the button, "remove", I no longer can access any attachments in the whole pdf file, not just the two that are attached to that email. And when I redact one but not both attachment names from the email, neither can be opened.

I also tried to simply open the confidential attachment and redact the text in it. Adobe just crashed (closed down).
