Question

Redaction removing accessibility features

Using Adobe Acrobat Pro DC: I have several documents that have been created with accessibilty features (including alternate text for figures).  I need to create redacted versions of these that remove certain words and phrases, but when I apply the redaction it removes all of the alternate text that was added for the figures.  There is a toggle switch for the last "Apply" step to remove hidden information;  when I enable that switch, it removed everything (bookmarks, etc.); when I leave it on it still removes the figure alternate text.  Is there a solution to preventing the accessibility features from being removed?

I also experience this issue and need to have the ability to apply redactions without losing remediation work performed.

The redaction tool currently outputs an XObject for the redaction path. Could the tool please be updated to leverage the existing framework of working with accessibility features of deleting content objects of the text that needs to be removed instead?

A redaction could be added as the vectorized black bar and set to identify the object as a figure pre-populated with alt text like "redacted" or "redaction". Then remediators would need to perform the manual review to ensure proper tagging and alt text.
