All of a sudden it is impossible to reduce the size of PDF's in Acrobat 9 Pro (version 9.5.5). What can I do to have Acrobat Pro do this again? Everything else is working o.k. Thanks

Hi.

- As George said, there is something wrong in your process. The PDF must be optimized directly from InDesign, not with Acrobat.

- Sending a PDF via email is an old school process, we are living in the Cloud age now: Acrobat : File menu : Send File : Send & Track

JR. Thanks for your help. But do you mean I have to go (in InDesign) to File>Presettings Adobe PDF> & then choose what form I want (highest quality/smallest file size, or the settings my printer has given me etc.)?

And ha! Yes I'm a bit old school I suppose.

And thank you Test Screen Name: the Advanced> PDF Optimizer option works as well.

What are the exact steps you perform and what do you mean by "it is impossible"?, exactly? Is it that the file size simply isn't reduced, or that you are not able to performs the same steps as before? Does this happen with all documents or just certain ones? Certain documents with certain types of content can't be reduced, depending on the options you select.

Thanks George. NO, when I make a PDF from an InDesign file, everything works just fine. But when I try to reduce the size of this PDF (in order to mail it) I can click the option 'reduce file size', I'm asked to give a (new) name, click ok, but nothing happens. It worked before, but not anymore. By the way: it's a big file (over 350 mb).

It's really hard to say what could be wrong and I don't have any suggestions for you to try with Acrobat 9, but you might consider exporting to PDF from  InDesign using different export options that will result in a smaller file. The biggest reductions are typically with compressing/downsampling images.
