Question

Removing Templates in a PDF?

I am new to Adobe on this level. I am designing a CD cover. The process allows you to add photos and text to a pre made template. It then asks you to delete the template guides before submitting the final design. I have no idea how this is accomplished. I will happily explain in more detail if necessary, but I wonder if anyone can explain to me how this is accomplished. I find Adobe challenging to say the least. can someone walk me through this process? The template in question is attached.

This is a hybrid Illustrator file, saved as PDF using the "Preserve Illustrator Editing" option.

This file contain a PDF file AND a Ai file, so it's fully editable with Illustrator.

Use "Open with… Illustrator" or turn the suffix to .ai  (instead of .pdf).

A template of this kind might be made for a number of apps - but only one at a time - like Illustrator or InDesign. It assumes you are already experienced with using the app to add text and pictures, but helps you make sure that the work you do is sized and shaped right.

I want to thank everyone who responded with great information. I had no idea it was an Illustrator file, I have been operating under the belief that it was Acrobat. I need to rethink how to proceed, but can do so now... Hopefully I can figure out how to do this... Thanks again everyone.

A final thought... I have been through this with 3 different firms. The first time through about 6 years ago, I gave up and went with a jewel box design that didn't require any Adobe. My second attempt the person I purchased through ended up setting it all up and charged me 15.00 for the service. This time I think they want 30.00 to finish it. I am pretty good with most applications, and have used many over the years by working through. I am just totally baffled by all this. No one will explain, they would rather charge me more than walk me through the process. And hell, I have done most of the work, all I need to do is delete the template layers and save the damn file... it's frustrating as hell.

There's no easy way to remove specific layers in Acrobat. You can remove all of them by flattening the file, though. To do that open the Layers panel on the left, tick the eye icon next to each layer on or off (depending on whether you want it to be visible or not in the final file):

Then click the Options button in the Layers panel and select Flatten Layers:

Note this process is NOT reversible, so make sure to save the flattened file under a new name!

The result file, without the layers:

This template was made to be used with Illustrator not Acrobat.
Open it with Illustrator.

You're right. A PDF file is not suitable for this task.

They need to provide you with the template file in INDD format (or something similar) for such editing.

It's an Illustrator file. It being a PDF is not relevant. You wouldn't be doing this work in Acrobat anyway. If that was the OP's original intention, then they have bigger problems ;).

Even if the OP intends to create a final file in InDesign, they can place this PDF on a layer onto itself for use as guidelines to create the work, then delete/hide it afterwards.

Let's see what the poster had in mind before we skew off topic.

The PDF you have is actually an Illustrator file with layers for the different items. The template guide and notes are on  separate layers unto themselves, so you are being asked to delete these two before you save final artwork (which you would create on your own layers; they have given you one already):
