Required fields set to participant 1 but e-sign is requiring them to be completed in prefill

I've set up a template document which has some required fields in it for the signer (participant 1). I've set them all to participant 1 only. I also have a few  (not-required) fields which are to be prefilled by me.

However when I try to send the document, it is requiring me to complete all the required fields despite them being set to participant 1, and won't let me send the document to said participant without completing them.

Not sure what I'm misisng. Any help would be appreciated.
