I no longer have the old devices, so I’m wondering how I can reset the activation on those devices. The advisors I spoke to were unhelpful and only directed me to this forum...

If you can’t access your old devices, you can still reset activations for Adobe Acrobat (Pro v20) through your account. Adobe allows a limited number of active devices, so this situation is common.

    Here’s the working solution:

Sign out remotely from all devices
Go to your Adobe account page: account.adobe.com
Sign in → Security → Sign out of all devices

This will automatically deactivate Acrobat on any old or lost systems.

    Then simply sign in again
Open Acrobat on your current device and log in. It will activate normally.

If you don’t see the option
Sometimes the “sign out of all devices” button is missing (especially on older licensing setups).

    In that case:

    • Contact Adobe Support via live chat
    • Tell them clearly: “Please reset my activation count for Acrobat Pro (v20)”
    • They can manually clear all old activations from their side

    Important note
You cannot manually deactivate specific old devices without access to them. Only Adobe support can fully reset activations if remote sign-out is unavailable.

    Quick tip
After this, always sign out before changing devices to avoid this issue again.

I assume this is a perpetual license and not a subscription (otherwise, the message would have offered you a choice of logging out of all devices). In that case, you unfortunately need to have Adobe’s customer service reset your activation count. As far as I know, there is nothing you (or we) can do to get around this.
