Question

Retain Alt Text when combining pdf files in Acrobat Pro

I have 4 seperate word documents with Alt Text for various maps and graphs. I can convert them seperately into pdf files (using Adobe Acrobat Pro) and the Alt Text is retained in each of them. However, when I combine the 4 pdf's in Acrobat Pro the Alt Text is not retained.

The option of first combining the word documents then converting to a pdf would work but is less desirable as it would require signficant formatting changes to merge the 4 documents into 1 document.

Any ideas out there ?

This might be a bug, you may want to report it here: https://www.adobe.com/products/wishform.html

That being said, have you looked at the "Options" on the "Combine Files" dialog? There is an option to "Always enable accessibility and reflow". Have you tried to enable this to see if the behavior changes?

Thanks for the response Karl. So it appeares the issue was a cover page that I was inserting form a 3rd party had not been tagged and was causing the whole combined document to lose the tags (and Alt Text). Once I tagged the cover it all worked fine.

Glad that it worked.
