rolling check lists

I am trying to make a checklist that once a task is complete it can be checked off and either moves to another location or is removed from the check list.  Is there a way to do this.  I have read a number of articles but I don't really know what I am reading because I am not familiar with some terms.  Can someone please help me?   An example of how to accomplish this would be really great.  Thanks!

Correct answer Thom Parker

I know NOTHING about programming.  I am not computer savvy.  I can work a program like my tax software, quickbooks, etc.  But if my computer that allows me to use them messes up I am clueless as to how to fix anything on it.  I can barely defrag it.

I can attach a copy of the format I have used so far.  I don't know how to do that but willing to try.  I would really like for this to work....

As I stated earlier, a PDF is a bit like paper. Which is why this is not so easy. A list where items disappear and all the other items then shift, is very dynamic.  You've got items appearing and disappearing, and moving around.  The only way to implement this on a PDF is with an existing PDF feature that is dynamic. Form Fields and Annotations are those features. You've used form fields before, but only in a static way, i.e, they don't move. The only way to make them move dynamically is to write a script to make that happen.

Here's a tutorial that shows how to add and delete items from a list field (#2 on my list):

Perhaps you should consider hiring a consultant to create this form for you. Contact me if you are interested.

Ok, so i am really frustrated with this whole to do list thing..  Maybe you can help me another way.  Is there a way that I can set it up so all empty text boxes go to the bottom and boxes that  have data go to the top.  Kinda butch the like kind together.  Because I don't have an issue deleting the tasks that are complete but i want to keep my tax return in the order I recieve them and this crapping thing is not working like I want it to.  I did read the info about scripting but I really don't get it.  I actually quite confused with it.

thanks

Hello Kandices,

I am sorry for the delayed response to your query.

Would you mind sharing more details about your query? Are you referring to add a 'Checkbox' tool available in a PDF form?

If yes, you may add the checkboxes or radio buttons in a PDF file using Acrobat by preparing a PDF form.

For detailed information, you may refer to the article Acrobat Pro DC Accessible Forms and Interactive Documents

The 'Prepare form' feature is available in Acrobat, not in the freeware Adobe Reader application.

If you have a different query, please share a piece of detailed information.

Thanks,

Anand Sri.

Well I am actually not sure what to use.  I don't really know how to use the radio buttons and if the check boxes do what I want, I don't know how to make it do it.  I am using the software my firm has (Acrobat Adobe Standard X).  I have a to do list that I am attempting to make more user friendly.  I want the completed tasks(tax returns in my case) to go away or to another location.  I have found many apps for to do lists but the completed task are simply cross through.  I want them to be removed from the list when marked complete so none of the incomplete ones get missed because of the clutter from the completed ones.

So to answer your question, I don't know..... I don't have the option to use another software either and I prefer not to use excel.

Thanks,

Kandice

Hello Kandice,

You may use Acrobat to create PDF forms to and distribute it. For detailed information, please refer to help article Creating and distributing PDF forms in Adobe Acrobat

For Acrobat X, you may refer to https://acrobatusers.com/tutorials/how-to-create-editable-form-fields

For any customization in the form, please share the details you want to add in the form.

Acrobat Standard X is old software and the updates, security patches are no longer available. End of support for Acrobat X and Reader X

Thanks,

Anand Sri.
