Question

Save as Adobe PDF- changing printing area

Hello, I'm encountering an issue while generating a PDF from Excel using add-in 'Save as Adobe PDF' option. The PDF is being created correctly; however, during the PDF generation process, Excel closes and reopens with altered printing area settings. I've determined that during PDF creation, Adobe PDF generates a formula called 'print_area' within Excel. Since I'm using a non-English language version, Excel is unable to interpret this formula, leading to the creation of a default printing area different from the one originally applied in the document (I'd like to add that after closing Excel and reopening it, the 'print_area' formula name gets changed to its equivalent in the language we're using for Excel. However, this change only occurs after manually closing and reopening Excel, and not automatically after generating the PDF). After changing the language in Excel to English and going through the entire process again, everything works correctly and Excel automatically reopens with the correct print area. Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this problem?

Hi @Mateusz319456964att

I understand the frustration you're experiencing with the issue involving the generation of PDFs from Excel using the 'Save as Adobe PDF' add-in. It sounds like you've done a great job identifying the root cause of the problem: the 'print_area' formula that Adobe PDF generates during the PDF creation process seems to be affected by the non-English language version you're using. This is causing Excel to struggle with interpreting the formula correctly, leading to altered printing area settings when you reopen the Excel file.

It's good to see that you've already taken the step of changing your Excel language to English and found success in resolving the issue. This certainly suggests that the problem is quite specific to the language settings. It's also a smart move to ensure that both your Excel and Adobe PDF add-in are up to date. Often, software updates come with bug fixes that can address compatibility issues, just like the one you're facing.

Regards

Amal

Hi,

I'm French and have the same problem with any way to create a PDF with Acrobat pro 2020 (202.005.30574) from an Excel file with Office 365 (2402 build 17328.20184). I really want to keep my language wich is normal. It's been three years now since this bug has been reported : is ther any solution now from Adobe ?

Anyway, even if I switch Acrobet to the English language, the bug is still there 😞
