Question

Scan&OCR - quickly fill memory when processing large numbers of files

Hey all, I use Adobe Acrobat Pro DC 2020.009.20067 on a Lenovo P50 with i7 and 32 GB RAM.

I have to process a large number of files for OCR = about 4,000 files with a total of 8 GB.

My computer with i7 processor and 32 GB RAM has processed about 100 files after about 10 minutes and the RAM is now occupied with about 3 GB. And rising. So the 4.000 files will not run out. What can I do to free up memory after each document? Why is the working memory so full and not emptied again after each document?
thx and greetings from Austria
Hans

Same problem, described in https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat/memory-leak-which-leads-to-out-of-memory-when-doing-ocr/m-p/11209535?page=1#M261969

Lenovo P50
- i7-6700HQ
- 32 GB RAM DDR4
- Windows 10 Pro 64-Bit

Adobe Acrobat Pro DC 2020.009.20067 (32-Bit)
- No Updates available
- Installation repaired

Processing many PDF files for OCR
- maximum processor usage 20%
- after about 25 Minutes
- 3,6 GB RAM usage
- all remaining files are simply skipped and not processed
- Error message "Die Seite kann nicht verarbeitet werden, weil beim Dienst Paper Capture Erkennung ein Fehler aufgetreten ist. (6)"

In which order are the files processed? According to size? According to alphabetical sorting? Not apparent to me. Therefore the whole job can be cancelled!
So I can at least find out by the update date which files were not OCRed. Namely if several files were "processed" per minute.

After 30 minutes, the memory has grown to about 3.5 GB, the process continues, but the documents are no longer OCR!

Does anyone have any idea what's going on? Does Acrobat have a memory limit?

What you see is what I would expect from this app. No, I do not have an alternative suggestion. I have given two solutions. I understand you will not like either one.

OK, thanks again

Acrobat is an interactive tool with VERY low volume automation. You are far, far, outside what it is designed for. Look for a specialist PDF OCR tool, rather than trying to use the basic Acrobat features. Or quit every 50 files or so.

Thanks for the info!
Do you have an alternative suggestion for me?
