I am wondering what the best way to go about scanning large documents where you want to be able to keep a high resolution copy but need a low resolution copy for emails and only want to scan the document in one time.

If you scan a letter sized page 300 ppi and save it as a TIF document, it will be about 8 mb. However, once you convert that to a PDF and OCR it, it will be about 50-130 kb depending on how much text is on the page (this is ignoring any images which changes the calculations alot).

So, if you scan at 300 ppi, you'll get your small sized documents as well as high resolution.

Does that help?
