Screen reader ignoring tagged structure - HELP

I've correctly manually tagged my infographic PDF and made sure the tagged order is correct but everytime the screenreader goes to read its like it ignores everything and follows reading top-to-bottom, left-to-right. It has even started reading background/artifacted tags. I've even gone in preferences to make sure that it reads only the tagged structure. I've reinstalled adobe and have even tried to redowloand the file and restart the tagging process but the program wont even allow me to tag those after clearing the page structure. Am I missing something in the settings?

Hi Chameleon,

Thank you for reaching out, and sorry about the trouble.

Are you using the Read out loud feature in the Acrobat application?

Did you create the PDF and add tags in Acrobat itself?

Would you mind sharing the PDf with us? We will check it on our end.

Share the Acrobat and OS version on the machine you are using.

Thanks,

Meenakshi

Hi,

Im using the Read out loud feature in Acrobat. I added tags on the PDF I had created. Im also on Mac 12.2.1. Acrobat is up to date. Attached is the file:

We often hear that Acrobat's read aloud feature isn't a "real" screen reader, and that results should be taken with a grain of salt., which seems a bity weird. But in any case...

When I want to check reading order and don't want to listen to a robot reading to me, I use PAC3's "Screen Reader Preview," which shows you visually what a "real" screen reader sees; strictly following (I think) the order using the tag tree. Below is a screen shot from PAC3's peek at your doc, does it look correct? If so you're probably good, despite what Acrobat's robot voice is telling you.

What reading software are you using?

And on which platform, Mac or PC?
