Screentip conversion bug from PPT to PDF

At the moment hyperlinks in PowerPoint or Word lose their screentip text when converted to PDF.  Please correct this feature.

To reproduce the issue in PPT:

  1. In blank presentation, insert a shape (e.g. rectangle)
  2. Right-click on the rectangle and choose "Hyperlink..."
  3. In the Address box type e.g. http://example.com
  4. Click on "ScreenTip..." button and enter e.g. "Message"
  5. Click OK
  6. Test the screentip in presentation mode: when hovering the mouse over the shape, the screentip appears
  7. File > Save as Adobe PDF...
  8. Open the newly created PDF: when hovering the mouse over the shape, the screentip is missing (only example.com is shown)

This can create accessibility issues

Thank you

Here is a solution, though not perfect:

In Microsoft Word, choose "save as"(not Save as PDF), select the file type as pdf, and save the file. Only in this way, the screentip (or tooltip, alternateve text... whatever you call it) can be shown in Acrobat.

But, such screentip won't show in Web browsers such as Chrome, Edge, etc. And many other PDF readers won't show them either, such as WPS PDF, Foxit, etc.

It's a shame that Adobe haven't fix it for so many years.

Hello Sebastien,

We are able to reproduce the issue at our end. The issue seems to be the metadata tag that is not getting picked up but the link is getting displayed. The link becomes the tooltip in the PDF and the metadata  alt tag gets removed.

We have reported the issue to the Development and Engineering team and they are working on the fix and will share an update soon.

Thanks for your time and patience.

Regards,

Anand Sri.

Hello Nyift,

We apologize for the inconvenience caused, would you mind sharing more details about this issue?

What is the dot version of Acrobat installed? To identify, refer to Identify the product and its version for Acrobat and Reader DC

Is it a Mac or Windows machine and what is the version of operating system installed?

What is the version of Office suite installed?

Is this behavior occurs while adding a shape in the blank presentation or does this happen with text as well?

We’re here to help, just need more info.

Thanks,

Anand Sri.

Hi Anand,

Windows 10 / Acrobat Pro DC Version 2018.011.20040 / Office 2016

but I observed the same bug on other versions of acrobat pro

for a text shape, the hyperlink operates on a portion of the text and I think the screentip is also dropped when converting to PDF

Thank you

Sebastien

I think the same issue was reported as save Screen Tip when converting Word docx to PDF

The solution proposed is impractical because it requires editing the PDF after each conversion
