"Search has skipped *** files because either these files are corrupt or you don't have..."

Hi there,

I'm an academic and I have been using Acrobat for years without any problems. One thing that I do is that I have a database of articles and will use Acrobat to search for keywords. Up until recently I had no issues, but no wI get this message.

 

"Search has skipped *** files because either these files are corrupt or you don't have permissions to open them". 

 

I've tried everything to get this working again, but it just won't which is really problematic for me. Here are some things that I tried:

 

I extracted one file to test it on just one file - didn't work.

I can open this one file - so it can't be corrupt and I have permission, right?

I made sure that the file wasn't on iCloud, just in case.

Checked for updates.

 

Any ideas? All I can think of now is the recent Mac OS update. Would really love a solution...

    Have you tried turning off enhanced security? Preferences> Security (enhanced).

    Check for and install any additional Mac updates.

    Hi there

     

    Hope you are doing well and sorry for the delay.

     

    We're sorry for the delayed response and inconvenience caused. The error comes when a PDF file is corrupt or damaged and Adobe Reader tries to open it, but when it finds that there is an issue with the PDF, it throws the error.

     

    You can also refer and try the suggestions from the following Adobe article and discussions https://adobe.ly/3TkUzgT and check.

    This is the very definition of the Adobe "support" that so many paying licence holders are fed up with, and that sees them increasingly turning away from Adobe products. The original poster clearly states "I can open this one file - so it can't be corrupt and I have permission, right?" and the "support" reply states "The error comes when a PDF file is corrupt or damaged and Adobe Reader tries to open it".  A link is then supplied which is broken and defaults to the User Guide. Honestly, NO reply would be better than this. Adobe has gone from innovative and brilliant to greedy, grasping and insulting to its customers. Adobe, your time is running out.
