Can I search an Acrobat generated index using only Acrobat Reader? In other word, do I have to use Acrobat to search Acrobat indexed PDFs or can I use any PDF reader?  If so, are there certain steps I need take in order to search with a PDF reader?

Yes, it's possible to do it in the free Reader.

Open the Advanced Search window and click on Show More Options at the bottom.

Then go to Look In, and click on "Select Index". Click on Add and select your PDX file.

Click OK and you can now search that index directly.

Thank you for your help.  Is it possible to take all the Acrobat generated indices (as well as their associated pdf files) and put them on an iPad and do advanced searchs?
