seeking recommendations for Adobe Acrobat Pro 11 replacement, post Catalina
Have relied on Adobe Acrobat Pro 11 for years now in OS, which paired well
with PDF Expert on my iPad. I wasn't paying close enough attention when my
iMac auto upgraded to Catalina this fall and I lost access to the Adobe product.
Fine, I thought. I'll go all in to PDF Expert across the board. That turned out to be a
real disappointment. It's a great iOS app; it's sub-par in OS. Examples: it bloats
docs when you combine two PDFs (i.e., 2+2 = 6); it does not have the power to shrink PDFs the way Adobe Pro did,
nor the robust capacity for OCR. These features/failings have serious consequences for my work (which requires e-filing OCR'd PDFs of a particular size).
Fortunately, I have an old MacBook Pro that can still run my version of Adobe (which is how
I was able to confirm the deficiencies in the OS version of PDF Expert), but it's
almost 9 years old and it's a pain juggling docs just for this reason.
That said, I like the innovation of the smaller developers and the way they make themselves available for
support.
So my question: which Mac Catalina-compatible Adobe product -- that I can buy and download and use locally, not online -- is the replacement for Adobe Acrobat Pro with all of its bells and whistles? And is there another MacOS PDF product that you think is better than PDF Expert but gives premium Adobe PDF products a run for their money?
