Select Tool Issue - Read forum Discussions Already

Question

I am trying to cut and paste text from pdf to word. When I try to use the select tool, it shows up as a broken plus sign, instead of the arrow that allows me to easily cut and paste.

I read some of the forum postings and have attempted to go through preferences > general and modify the select tool settings, but I still keep getting stuck with this broken plus sign that is difficult to work with.

Hi Bonnie:A PDF can have editable text or it can be image-only, meaning it may show you words, but they are just pixels in the shape of letters that can't be selected. The cursor you are describing indicates you have an image underneath your cursor and not editable text. You can retype the text, or you can run OCR to convert the image to editable text. Use the Enhance Scans tool and then Recognize Text.
