selecting/editing existing text in Acrobat pro 2023

Ever since the new version was installed, I can't figure out how to select text on an existing pdf. I used to open it, hit the edit button, and from there I could select text and edit. 

 

Now, it only let's me add additional text, not select or edit existing text. 

 

How do I do this in the new version?

    Nevermind... it seems the first 3-4 documents I was trying to edit were pdfed images. I just opened a pdf from indesign and it edits text fine.....
