Shared review to a network location no longer works after October 2022 update

When I use Send for Shared Commenting, I use a company internal network drive for shared reviews. This was working fine until I received the last update to Acrobat in late October; now, when I select the location, I receive an error that shares "Adobe Acrobat cannot write to the file destination provided. Enter a valid file location." I verified that I have full rights to this location and tested to make sure that I can create and write to files and folders there. My company help desk also had me try another location that I have full rights to. Another writer at my company who uses this process gets the same error on locations that have worked up to now.

Was this broken with the latest update? If so, how soon will it be fixed?

And 2 years later, the problem is still preventing us from being able to set up a shared review.
Hello, Adobe? Can you please fix this? It's been a while since DOS restricted us to 8 char filenames--how 'bout Acrobat allowing us to choose any path for a shared review?

Hi there

Hope you are doing well and sorry for the delay.  It seems like you’re encountering an issue with the Send for Shared Commenting feature in Acrobat. Based on your description, here are some steps you can try to resolve the problem:

1. Verify Acrobat and OS Updates

  • Ensure you’re using the latest version (24.05.20320) of Acrobat. Sometimes, a hotfix is released to address new issues. You can check for updates under Help > Check for Updates in Acrobat.
  • Confirm your operating system is up to date, as compatibility issues can arise from outdated OS versions.

2. Test an Alternative Network Location

  • Even though you’ve already tested another location, try saving the file to a local folder on your machine (e.g., Desktop) to rule out network-related restrictions. If it works locally, the issue might be with network permissions or configurations.

3. Check Network Drive Compatibility

  • Ensure that the network drive is accessible through the file explorer and doesn’t have intermittent connectivity issues.
  •  Double-check that the drive supports SMB protocol, which is required for shared reviews.

4. Reset Acrobat Preferences

  • Sometimes, corrupted preferences can cause issues. Reset Acrobat’s preferences described here https://adobe.ly/4gWhTuW
  • Relaunch Acrobat and check.

5. Disable Protected Mode

  • Acrobat’s Protected Mode may restrict access to certain locations. Disable it temporarily to test:
    • Go to Preferences (Ctrl, Cmd+K) > Security (Enhanced) and uncheck Enable Protected Mode at startup.
  • Restart Acrobat and retry the process.

You may also try adding the location to the privileged locations in Acrobat go to Preferences (Ctrl,Cmd+K) > Security (Enhanced) > Privileged locations > Add folder path > click OK and reboot the application and check.

Let us know how it goes.

Has anyone else run into this problem? Is anyone doing shared reviews on network locations since the update?

Yep. We're using Acrobat v 2022.002.20191, and ran into the issue twice this month. It's still a bug, or maybe one that popped up again after it was fixed? Very frustrating.

Thank you for confirming! I'm hoping we can get a community expert to chime in here.
