Question

Since last update, when I open the same document in a new tab, it doesn't display the pdf

Since the 26.1.21771 update on August 1, when I open the same document in a new tab from a portfolio, the pdf doesn’t display. I have to open the thumbnail tab and manually select the page in the document to display. Why, all of a sudden is it not working? It has been working fine for the last three years. Does Adobe even know about this bug?

It does sound like it could be related to the recent update, especially if the problem started immediately after updating and the workflow had been working for years. Try temporarily disabling Protected Mode (just for testing) or rolling back to the previous Acrobat version if possible to see if the issue goes away. If it does, that would strongly suggest it's a bug introduced in version 26.1.21771. Hopefully Adobe can reproduce and address it in a future update.

Hi @DFWTechGuy, we are sorry to hear that. Please share the logs as requested in the previous response so we can have our development team review them and isolate the issue for a fix.

    Hi @Daddityghoul ,

Hope you're doing well, and thanks for reaching out and sharing the exact version, that's really helpful

A couple of things that would help narrow this down:

    • What is the version of the OS you are using? (Win/Mac)

    • Is this happening in Acrobat Pro/Standard, or Acrobat Reader?

    • Does it happen with every PDF portfolio you open, or a specific one?

    • Does toggling the "new Acrobat" experience off and on change anything?

In the meantime, try to repair the installation as described below:

Repair the installation (Win Only): go to Help > Repair Installation (Windows) and restart Acrobat afterward. This re-registers components that sometimes get missed during an update and can cause rendering/display quirks like this

Since this appears to be a genuine regression tied specifically to 26.1.21771 rather than something on your end, please share a short video recording of the steps you are taking and the issue as it occurs for clarity and further investigation.

It happens on both Windows and Mac and I used two different portfolios to test it and had the same results. The Windows version is on the old Acrobat set-up and the Mac is on the new Acrobat. Like I said, same result. I tried the repair installation on Windows prior to checking on a Mac. Again, same results. Can I upload a video or do I need to send you a link to it? Can I use a Dropbox link to the video?
