Question

Since last week, Acrobat freezes when I close a PDF document

Since last week, Adobe Acrobat works correctly to open and read a PDF document, but when I try to close the document, Acrobat freezes.  This happens when closing the last open document and happens with every PDF document.

I am using Adobe Acrobat Version 2026.002.21931 on a 2022 Mac Studio running Mac OS 26.6.2.

I am attaching the Sample Process information captured after Acrobat froze.

Any solution?

Same issue here on a couple Windows devices running Acrobat v2026.002.21931

The issue persists after running a repair installation.

No updates available as at 5/10/2026

Noticable especially after editing PDF files

Since this happens with every PDF and specifically when closing the last open document, it sounds more like an Acrobat issue than a problem with the individual PDFs.

There was a similar Mac report where Acrobat would freeze when closing the last remaining PDF, so I would first check Help > Check for Updates and make sure you're on the latest build.

Since you're already able to reproduce the freeze and have captured the Sample Process, that's useful information for Adobe. Adobe also recommends collecting diagnostic logs when Acrobat hangs or freezes, as those can help identify what process it is waiting on.

If updating doesn't help, I'd post the Sample Process along with whether it also happens with a newly created blank PDF. That may help determine if this is a general Acrobat/macOS issue rather than something specific to the documents.

    Hi nice_Swirl068d,

Thank you for reaching out, and sorry to hear that you are experiencing an issue.

As the application freezes with every PDF, please try the troubleshooting steps outlined in the help document: Acrobat is not responding.

You can also attempt to reinstall the application by following these steps:

    • Uninstall the application and run the cleaner tool from the following link: Acrobat Cleaner tool.

    • Reboot the machine.

    • Install Adobe Acrobat from the following page: Install Acrobat.

If you continue to experience the same issue, please collect the freezing and process logs by following the instructions provided here:

Let us know if you need any assistance.

    Thanks,
