Question

Still no way to turn off auto OCR?

New version of Acrobat on new WIN11 machine.

Despite lots of comments requesting otherwise, the newest version of Acrobat STILL forces an automatic OCR conversion just by opening the Edit "tab".   99% of the time, when I access that action group its only because I just want to CROP a pdf, an action which doesn't require OCR.

We have a lot of programs which automatically create pdfs, most of which do not format well, especially when creating a pdf from an image, a picture, a screen capture, or a drawing.  I probably crop two dozen pdfs every day just to clean them up.  Its very annoying to have to wait for a feature to complete that I DON'T WANT and DON'T NEED.

IS THERE A WAY TO SHUT OCR OFF YET!

You can add the "Crop Tool" to the toolbar and use this?

How frustrating!

Have you tried this:

  1. Go to preferences
  2. Select Reading
  3. From the Page Vs Document dropdown list, select "Do not read documents"

Thats an accessibility feature for voicing the screen text, how many pages to read.  Its not the OCR scan which is triggered when the Edit menu is selected.

Have you already tried this:

Steps to disable Read Mode

  1. Close your internet browser
  2. Open Acrobat or Reader (without a file being open)
  3. Select Edit then Preferences
  4. Select the Internet category
  5. Uncheck Display in Read Mode by default
  6. Click OK
  7. Relaunch Acrobat
