Stop all the seperate files being opened when converting files to one PDF

Hello

Apologies for the long title

As the title how can i "Stop all the separate files being opened when converting files to one PDF"

I recently suffered a SSD failure, so had to reinstall all the programs back in etc etc.

One og the issues i am having with Adobe (there are many) Is I create many PDF documents that use different constituent files, such as Word, Excel, and existing PDF files, to name some.

Prior to the SSD failure the Adobe DC (which i find a disappointment to how it was previously but that's another argument)

When creating the PDF file from multiple files, it would work away converting & combining the files, quite happily then open the finished file to review.

Now it opens up every file, in its appropriate program, then I get the error message cannot continue as "xxx" is open.

This is to say more than irritating, as i mentioned this never happened before, one hopes its a simple fix. any assistance / suggestions, would be greatly appreciated

Regards Brian JW

I was re-reading this post and was unclear about the annoying notifications which, since you did a re-install of the OS, makes me believe that  it may be  Windows 10 settings issue

See if by following this slides it helps with getting rid of the notifications:

Click on Start Button , and select settings

Then scroll down to "Notifications & Actions" and turn on or off the setting that you think might be related to the issue

I also forgot to mention these tips and see if it also helps:

Go to TOOLS --->PREFERENCES-----> DOCUMENTS

Check and uncheck any settings under Open Settings

Then scroll down to TRUST MANAGER and uncheck "Allow Opening of Non-PDF File Attachments"

Hello,

When you say converting the files do you mean importing them into Adobe Acrobat ? Also what version of Acrobat are you using?

And when you create a MS Word or an Excel file, for example, have you tried if, instead of importing the file with Adobe Acrobat to you export the file to PDF from the MS Office application?  Then try and  open it normally in Acrobat.

I would also try downloading LibreOffice or OpenOffice which are opensource equivalent of MS Office, install either one of them and create a document, like a simple spreadsheet or a short memo in a text document.  Then try and open the LibreOffice file with Adobe Acrobat and see if the problem persists. This is just to try and rule out  if this issue is dependent and exclusive of the applications that you are currently using.

Additionally (now that I got curious with your issue), you did mentioned that your SSD suffered a failure.  Did you do a file system check before reinstalling everything?

From a computer repair POV below  are the steps I would follow  :

Uninstall you version of Adobe

Download a stand alone version of the Adobe Acrobat that you are subscribed to and save it with a backup of all of  your important  files to a separate USB device or mass storage device:

Before you do a Windows 10 update perform a  filesystem check  shown in the slides below:

click  on the start button , type in "cmd" in the search box and then  choose to open the command prompt as Administrator from the options;

type in "sfc /scannow" and let this program do its own thing.

It might take anywhere between 5-10 minutes for it to finish the scan and when its finished  it will display the results of the scan like so:

Note in the slide above that it will let you know if repairs were performed and to check the log for more info.

Proceed then to reinstall your Adobe product. When the installation is finished  don't mess with anything yet until you perform a Windows 10 update from the Microsoft support page found here:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4027667/windows-10-update

When all these steps are done, try importing files into Adobe Acrobat again and post back to see if this helped you in any way.

Hi

Yes, as stated new SSD new Install of everything (thats been the issue windows 10 office 365 etc etc, I am having to mess with setting to stop the irritating "extra features we have made for you" !!!

It was a simple check box !!! on the page as it opened in DC

But now I am stuck, since a update, its reset back to this stupid action, stated above, of DC stopping me converting files to due to "files being open" which DC is opening!!

Online help is no help, at all

I now get a opening screen of recent etc & the check box to stop the files opening has gone, so becoming rather frustrated
