Question

Strange cursor movements after pasting text to another page

While editing my PDF, I selected text on one page to paste on a different page. After pasting the text, all words then had 2 spaces between them instead of the original one space. Backspace worked backward, and the cursor justified to the right margin instead of the left as normal.

What did I do wrong? And, how do I return it to normal function? Please.

Hello!

I hope you are doing well.

Are you using Acrobat Pro or the freeware Acrobat Reader desktop version? Please ensure you have the latest version of Acrobat installed on the machine: 25.001.2043x Optional update, Mar 19, 2025. Check for any pending updates from the Menu > help > check for updates, install the updates, restart the app and the machine, and check. For more information, see this: https://adobe.ly/4iaBB63

The 'Snap to Grid' function can cause pasted elements to align unexpectedly. Disable it, navigate to Menu > View > Show/Hide > Rulers & Grids > Snap to Grid. Ensure 'Snap to Grid' is unchecked. Ensure the text formatting is consistent. Sometimes, pasting text from different sources can cause formatting issues. Use Edit > Preferences > Content Editing > Font Options to set a default font. When pasting text, use the Edit PDF tool to ensure the text is properly integrated into the document. Go to Tools > Edit PDF and paste the text.

Use the 'Paste in Place' Command:

  • To paste an item in the exact location from where it was copied:

    • After copying the content, navigate to the desired page.

    • Press Ctrl+Shift+V (Windows) or Cmd+Shift+V (Mac) to paste in place.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Anand Sri.

@Davelove793

I've moved your post from Using the Community to the Adobe Acrobat forum.

  • Which typeface is being used?
  • Is this in all doucuments or just the one?
  • When text selected, please show the Edit a PDF toolbar so we can see the settings.
