Question

Strange default font, and changing default fonts in preferences doesn't work

Recently, my Adobe Acrobat Pro started loading PDFs with a strange font that I don't recognise and is hard to read (pictured). It comes up with most new PDFs I load.

I have tried changing the default text under Edit > Preferences > Content Editing, but it had no effect.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, no effect.

Any other suggestions?

Hi Cmacdonald

We are sorry for the trouble. As described Adobe Acrobat Pro started loading PDFs with a strange font that you don't recognise.

It seems to be a file specific issue, would you mind sharng the sample PDF file with us so we can check it at our end?

Have you created the PDFs or have you got the PDFs from a different user? What are the steps taken to create the PDF? Please check the PDF producer under document properties as follows. Open the PDF > Go to File > Properties > Description and check.

You may try the following preference settings and see if that works: Go to Edit > Preferences > Page Display > Under 'Rendering' Select 'Use Local Fonts' > Click ok

You may also try to open the PDF with chrome web browser and see if the fonts are displayed correctley.  If yes, try to print the PDF from there and select 'Adobe PDF' in the printer list and save the file with new name and check if that works for you.
Printing the file as 'Adobe PDF' will recreate the PDF

Also make sure you have the latest version of the Adobe Acrobat Pro installed. Go to Help > Check for updates. For more information please refer to the help page https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/ReleaseNotesDC/index.html

Keep us posted with the results

Regards
