Strange error: This operation is not allowed, since scanning is in progress.

Using the Optimize Document wizard, I'm getting a lot of "This operation is not allowed, since scanning is in progress" errors.

 

This is a confusing message.  It sounds like Acrobat Pro is telling me it can't scan the document becuase it's busy scanning the document.  What is really going on?

There's more.  When I try to close Acrobat, I get this:

Same problem. But seem to have fixed it the following way:

Open the Windows Command prompt by typing cmd into the search box

In the command prompt window, type the following (omitting the inverted commas) "taskkill /im acrobat.exe /f /t". Then hit the Return or Enter key.

It should shut Acrobat down and when you restart it, the problem will not come back
