"Submit" Form and retain selected Layer Visibilty..?

Hello - I have searched and searched but can't seem to find an answer to this that I understand.  Starting to think it may not be able to be done.  I have an error form that I have created, with three layers and all three layers have differing fillable fields.  Its working beautifully with the layer changes (ie one view for a trade error, one view for an cash journal, one view for an international trade error) but when the user submits the form - I lose the layer underneath it and end up with just the fillable fields - won't make a lot of sense to the department receiving it.  I have the default state of all three to "off" so when the form is opened it is essentially blank - so I absolutely get why it is happening - but is there anyway to script into the submit button to retain that layer?  I have Adobe XI Pro...

I'm not a JS legend at all - totally self taught so pretty pathetic.  Would anyone be able to help?
