Text fields losing names and properties when sent to client?

PDF created from InDesign then adding text fields via Prepare Form. Naming the fields as per client's instructions and setting text properties - just font and point size, nothing complex. When the client receives the PDF the text fields are there but they appear as unnamed, with no properties assigned. If she sends the PDF back to me I can no longer see the text field names either. We are both using the most up-to-date version of Acrobat Pro and we are both on Macs. Any ideas?

This is correct. How did you sent the file?

So the problem has been solved by sending the PDFs via wetransfer instead of email, which suggests it was some kind of problem with compression over email. Most mysterious.

I've never seen this, it's very surprising.

Be sure that your client is not using Preview inadvertently.

This is the most frequent case, it happened to me this week with a client ...

As I said in my original post, the client is using the same version of Acrobat as me. She has shared her screen with me and I can see she is doing everything correctly.

What can you see when you use Tools > Prepare Form?

Everything I have described above is while in Prepare Form mode.

This is correct. You will see the field names only in Prepare Form mode.
