Question

Text turned into strange fonts

Hello,

Pls help a noob - I've been struggling editing a pdf doc (translating it right inside Adobe Acrobat Pro) and had a lot of problems with fonts etc, but now when things finally start to turn out alright and I'm nearly finished large swathes of the text suddenly changed into illegible characters. I found that when highlighting those parts it still says it's the right font, and when I change to another font the text comes back in that new font. If I then switch back to the correct original font - it actually works as it should. But as the doc contains many different fonts, is split into many many windows/boxes for layout purposes, and is pretty long, it will be a pain to go through it all that way.

So what happened - I didn't really do anything unusual - just went along editing the same way as before - and more importantly - is there a more efficent way to convert this right again?

Hope someone can help!

I have attached the first page of the doc.

Thanks in advance,

Nils

Nils,

I would suggest providing s much technical info s you can.  Let us know your OS, and Acrobat version.   I would also visit the Document properties and the Fonts tab to inspect Fonts tab for anything that might look out of place.  Are the fonts you are using embedded into the file?

My  best,

Dave

Hello,

Thanks for your reply!

I am trying this on two different Mac Books with the same result, I have worked on both on and off. The faulty version started on an old Macbook Air (2013) but running on BigSur, and after sending that same version to the other old MacBook Air (also 2013) running on Catalina the doc looks just the same. The Acrobat Pro DC should be the latest as I downloaded it in just a couple or three months ago (on both units).

In the document properties fonts tab I see a list of the fonts used, all called "embedded subset".

I have done all the work inside a pdf document, using the same fonts as were used in the original in the exakt same places, just translating the language as I went along. I opened up the missing fonts in Creative Cloud and that has worked so far. I understand that is not optional to work inside an "old" document like this, but it has worked so far and I have managed to solve problem after problem until just now when this one reared its ugly face 🙂

I have attached one page of my document with this question, I don't know if you can see it?
