Text with stroke created in Indesign appears two time in Acrobat's Content panel

Hi!

For synthesis PDF reader purpose I have to check the elements on Content Panel. In my PDF made from a Indesign document, I see (and listen) that a word with a 0,75pt strokes (I don't have bold face) appears twice. I didn't have this problem before... Is there a preference somewhere that can avoid this?  I'm on Sequoia 15.3, Indesign 2025, Acrobat 2024 up to date.

Thanks!

Hi there!

It sounds like you're dealing with an issue where a word is appearing twice in your PDF, even though it's not bold and the stroke weight is 0.75pt. This could be related to several things in your workflow, and I'll try to suggest a few things you can check to avoid this issue.

Possible Causes & Fixes:
Text Anti-Aliasing or Rendering Issue:

Sometimes, very thin strokes (like 0.75pt) may cause rendering issues in Acrobat or other PDF readers, leading to duplicated text. You can try adjusting the anti-aliasing or text rendering settings in Acrobat Preferences.

In Acrobat, go to:

Edit > Preferences > Page Display
Adjust settings under Rendering (e.g., set it to "Use Local Fonts" and/or try changing the "Smooth Text" settings).
This could address any rendering glitches where thin strokes or fonts might appear twice.

Transparency or Overlapping Objects in InDesign:

If the word with the 0.75pt stroke is created with a combination of transparent objects or overlapping layers in InDesign, sometimes the export to PDF may result in unexpected rendering behavior. Check to see if any layers are causing this overlap.
Try selecting the word in InDesign and looking for any hidden layers or objects that might be stacking incorrectly.
Check for Duplicate Text Layers or Characters:

In InDesign, inspect the text in question and make sure it's not actually being duplicated. Sometimes, if text is copied or not properly aligned, it can be rendered twice when exported to PDF.

Ensure you’re not using any hidden text or object styles that might be inadvertently duplicating the content.

Font or Stroke Issue in the PDF Export Settings:

Check your PDF export settings in InDesign. When exporting, try experimenting with different settings under File > Export > Adobe PDF (Print) and see if a change in the settings resolves the issue.
Look into the "Compression" settings and ensure that you are embedding fonts correctly. Sometimes missing font or stroke issues can lead to duplicated content in the PDF.
Preference for Handling 0.75pt Strokes:

In InDesign, there’s a setting called "Appearance of Black" which can influence how thin strokes (like 0.75pt) are handled, especially when printing or exporting. You might want to experiment with this setting under Preferences > Appearance of Black.

If it's set to "Use Rich Black", try changing it to "Use CMYK Black" and see if this affects the stroke rendering.

Sequoia 15.3 Rendering Engine:

It’s also possible that the Sequoia PDF reader might have an issue with rendering very thin strokes. Try viewing the PDF in Adobe Acrobat to see if the issue persists. If it's only happening in Sequoia, it could be a rendering bug with the reader itself.

Best regards,
Hazel
