Question

The “Generate Image” action no longer appears in the text‑selection popup, even though it used to.

I’m using Adobe Acrobat Pro Continuous Release Version 2026.001.21789 with the new interface.

A few weeks ago, when I selected text in a PDF, a small popup appeared with options like Copy Text, Edit Text, Share Text to WhatsApp, and Generate Image. Now that same popup no longer includes the Generate Image option.

I tried selecting the exact same text in the same file, as well as other text in the document, but the option still doesn’t appear. The file isn’t protected and isn’t stored in the cloud. I even tried selecting text in another file and it doesn’t appear.

How can an option like Generate Image show up once and then disappear weeks later? What controls when this option is available?

Thank you for your reply. We are using an Enterprise license, and there is no Generate AI option in Preferences. Strangely, when I selected text again today, the Generate Image option did appear in the popup. I didn’t make any changes on my end.

This inconsistency is really upsetting. I’m teaching classes next week and I’m concerned about whether this feature will appear reliably during the sessions. This is not the first inconsistency I’ve encountered while preparing for my training, and it’s making it difficult to plan with confidence.

Any guidance on why this might be happening—or how to ensure consistent behavior would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi @HappyTeacher_63 ,

Hope you are doing well and thanks for reaching out. We are sorry for the trouble you are experiencing.

A couple of things that would help pin this down:

    • Are you signed in with the same Adobe account now as when Generate Image was still showing up?
    • Do you see any other Generative AI powered options in Acrobat (like AI Assistant or generative summarize), or have those also stopped appearing?
    • Has anything else changed recently, like an Acrobat update, a change in internet connection, or working from a different network?

A couple of things worth checking:

    1. Confirm the Generative AI preference is still enabled. Go to Preferences (Ctrl/Cmd+K) > Generative AI, and check that the relevant options are still turned on. Since you're on the new interface, it's worth checking whether an update reset this setting.
    2. Check your internet connection. Generate Image needs to reach Adobe's servers, so a flaky or blocked connection can cause the option to just not appear, with no error message, rather than failing visibly https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/activation-network-issues.html

Let us know how it goes

Thanks for the follow‑up. Yes, I’m signed in with the same Adobe account, it’s the only one I have. The Generative AI options still don’t appear in my Preferences, but this morning when I selected text, the Generate Image option appeared. I’m not sure why it didn’t appear the other day, so I’m hoping it appears when I demonstrate this feature during my training session.

I checked Preferences > Generative AI, but that section doesn’t appear at all for me, even though I’m using the new interface. Nothing else has changed on my end; same device, same network, and no recent updates that I’m aware of. Is it possible that our organization disabled or removed the Generative AI features from our installation?

Also, for my upcoming training, I’d like to explain to my students why Adobe Acrobat Pro is so widely used. Could you share the main benefits or the most common reasons people choose Acrobat Pro over other PDF tools?

    Thanks again for your time.

    Hi @HappyTeacher_63 ,

Hope you are doing well and thanks for reaching out. We are sorry for the trouble you are experiencing.

A couple of things that would help narrow this down:

    • Is your Acrobat license an individual Pro/Standard subscription, or is it managed through a Teams/Enterprise admin?
    • And when you check Preferences (Ctrl,Cmd+K) > Generative AI, is "Enable generative AI features in Acrobat" still checked there?

Generate Image is one of the generative AI features, so it's controlled by that same preference. A couple of things that usually explain it disappearing:

    - The preference got unchecked, either by you, an update, or a sync from your Adobe account. Reopen Preferences > Generative AI and make sure "Enable generative AI features in Acrobat" is checked, then fully quit and relaunch Acrobat (not just close the window).

    - If you're on a Teams or Enterprise plan, an admin may have turned off access to generative AI features for your org since it last worked for you. In that case the toggle won't help, you'd need to check with your admin, since only they can restore that entitlement through Adobe.

    - Less likely, but worth ruling out: sign out of Acrobat and back in with your Adobe ID, in case your account's entitlement needs to refresh.

Let us know how it goes.
