The measurement tool will not complete the measurement

I am using the area tool to compute areas on a pdf and the tool had been working totally fine. Then for some reason the measurement tool will not complete the measurement and create the area. It simply vanishes after another mouse click. I have tried restarting the program, computer, and using another pdf. None worked. Any other ideas or anyone have this happen?
