Trying to use Fill and Sign in Adobe Acrobat Pro and keep getting the error message, "The operation failed because Adobe Acrobat encountered an unknown error."  I unistalled, reinstalled and updated the software.

Hi @SANJEEV32441188x0os,

Hope you are doing well, and sorry to hear this is still going.

Since you mentioned no solution found, it'll help to know a bit more about what you've already tried and what you're seeing:

Is this happening with every PDF you try to fill & sign, or one specific file?

Are you using the desktop Acrobat app, the browser version, or both? -

Have you tried the workaround mentioned earlier in this thread (Print the file using the Adobe PDF or Microsoft Print to PDF printer, save it as a new file, then try Fill & Sign on that copy)?

Have you tried signing the same document through the browser at https://adobe.ly/4geIrK0 instead of the desktop app, to see if the error is specific to the desktop client?

A couple of other things worth checking if you haven't already:

1. Confirm you're on the latest Acrobat version 26.001.21789 Out of cycle update, Aug 11, 2026 (Help > Check for updates), since this error has shown up across several versions over the years.

2. If the PDF has any security restrictions (password, edit restrictions) or was generated by third-party software rather than "printed" to PDF, that's been a common thread among reports of this error, so trying with a plain, unprotected PDF can help isolate whether it's file-specific.

Let us know how it goes.

I had the same issue. I just printed it to Adobe and I was able to use the fill and sign function.

yup, tried this like 200 times, still not working: uninstall, reinstall and updated the software... just great....
