The thumbnails shown in Windows taskbar entry do not list all open pdf's

Previously, when I right-clicked the Adobe Acrobat Reader icon in the Windows taskbar, it listed all the filenames currently open in Reader. Now it only lists approximately 13 of the open files. Above the list of filenames it shows Recent. I routinely have over 25 files open in Reader and the list of open files is critical for locating a specific file. At this time I have about 40 files open.

Is there a limit to the number of open files that would cause all the files not to be listed?

    Hi @TomGinTampa

I hope you are doing well, and thanks for reaching out. I understand that the taskbar list is how you locate a specific file among 40 open PDFs, so it not showing all of them is a real disruption to your workflow.

To look into this, could you please share:

    • Your Acrobat Reader version (Help > About Adobe Acrobat Reader) and Windows version.

    • Whether your PDFs open in separate windows or as tabs in one window.

    • When the list last showed all your open files, and whether the change came after an Acrobat Reader or Windows update.

    • Whether the list still stops at about 13 files after you restart Reader and reopen the files.

The taskbar list is also handled by Windows, so this could be related to the Windows taskbar behavior. It may help to check with Microsoft support as well, in parallel, in case it is a Windows-side issue.

    Regards

    Amal

    Amal:

Thanks for responding. I’ve embedded your questions so that I can respond directly to them

To look into this, could you please share:

    • Your Acrobat Reader version (Help > About Adobe Acrobat Reader) and Windows version.     26.002.22031 64bit Windows 11

    • Whether your PDFs open in separate windows or as tabs in one window.                   I don’t know what you mean by tabs or windows. I “think” it’s tabs; There is a row of what I call tabs across the top of the Reader and the files are displayed one at a time. I the select a tab to display the corresponding PDF

    • When the list last showed all your open files, and whether the change came after an Acrobat Reader or Windows update. I can’t definitively say when it started, but it’s relatively recent

    • Whether the list still stops at about 13 files after you restart Reader and reopen the files. This is the most important response. The current version of Reader was installed yesterday. When I closed and restarted Reader, 2 things happened: I got a message that Reader had to end. I saved the error file in case it’s important. Then I started Reader again and now instead of only showing either 12 or 13 files it shows all 40.  I guess we could assume that the new version fixed the problem. Only time will tell
