I am a Graphic Arts teacher in a prison (limited internet access). I need to Package an entire curriculum; videos, Lesson plans, tests, ETC. into 1 all inclusive interactive PDF to transport from computer to computer for a presentation but when i do, it changes the file extension therefore losing the links.

I am currently using: Acrobat X, CS6 InDesign.

I'm not sure I under stand... are you saying I should "re-link" inside

completed PDF?

Either that, or create the links the way I described in the first place. Simply merging the files into a portfolio will not change how they are set up.

Hi @Keric Brown ,

To fix broken links in your interactive Transportable PDF, try these solutions:

  1. Embed Everything – Ensure all media and fonts are fully embedded in InDesign before exporting as an Interactive PDF.
  2. Use Relative Paths – Store all linked files in the same folder as the PDF to keep links intact.
  3. Package the Project – Use File → Package in InDesign to bundle all linked assets.
  4. Try PDF Portfolio – Acrobat X lets you bundle multiple files while maintaining links.
  5. Consider Offline HTML – Convert the curriculum into an HTML package for offline use.

Hope this helps! 😊

Thanks!

On my class computer the thumb drive I store the PDF on is (H:) drive when I open the same file on my other (internet) computer it sees it as (F:) links are there but it wants to open up as a path beginning as (H:).

I feel there should be a way to assign a drive letter that is recognized or am I BSC (Bat S#!% Crazy)!

I just need it to work on other computers. I thought I had it when I "combined files to PDF" but it just converted everything to PDF and none of the links worked.

I do appreciate you taking the time!

Links in a PDF will always be relative, unless the targeted file is located on a different drive. So if you want the links to files on the H drive to remain pointing to that location no matter what then you should open the PDF from another drive before creating them.
