Trying to add a MP4 video to a PDF in Adobe Acrobat DC.

Trying to add a MP4 video to a PDF in Adobe Acrobat DC. It Will Either crash the program out right when Combining the files or will crash after trying to play video in PDF claiming it does not support file type. Iv run the file though Adobe Media encoder to make sure it is a H.246 and MP4. It also asks to enable 3D content when the video is clicked on (It is not 3d content as far as I know so I do not know why it asks for this.). After enabling 3D content the video will still not play and if the PDF is switched to another page and then back to the video, the video is greyed out and a pop up claiming "This PDF cannot be viewed in Acrobat or Reader, and the application will now exit".

Hello Rob_Fabiano__KVH,

We're sorry for the trouble you had, would you mind sharing more details about the issue for better understanding so that we can assist you in getting this issue resolved?

What is the version of Acrobat DC installed? To identify, please take help from the article https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/identify-product-version.html

Are you on a Mac or Windows machine and what is the version?

Though you have not mentioned the version of Acrobat DC installed, make sure you have the latest version of Acrobat DC 19.012.20040 Optional update, August 22, 2019

Check for any pending updates fom help>check for updates. Reboot the machine after updating Acrobat and check.

You can set the legacy multimedia player options under Edit > Preferences > Multimedia (legacy) if you know your preferred media player.
Open Acrobat>Edit >Preferences> check Multimedia Trust (legacy) and check what all operations are allowed under it.

For testing purposes, please disable the Enhanced Security and Protected View from Acrobat's Preferences from Edit (Windows)/Acrobat (Mac)>Preferences>Security(Enhanced). disable the preferences>Click OK>restart the application and check.

Note: Disabling the Protected View and Enhanced Security is only for testing purpose, please enable it back.

Are you experiencing this issue with all the PDF files or is it specific to one PDF?

Is it possible to share the PDF file in which you are getting the error message with us so that we can test it at our end?

Share the file in Direct/private message only. To send the private message, click on the message icon on the top right corner of the page new the Profile icon.

Hi there

Hope you are doing well and sorry to hear that.

Would you mind sharing the steps you are doing to add the MP4 Video to the PDF file? A small video recording of the same would be very helpful. Also, share the OS details you are using.

Please collect the Adobe CC logs https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-log-collector.html , procmon logs https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/Labs/acromonitor.html  and share them via document cloud link as described here https://acrobat.adobe.com/link/home/  to further investigate the issue in detail.

Regards

Amal

Hello,

I have the same problem, yellow bar, looping playback not working etc. ....

I manage to bypass the problem by going through indesign, the big problem is once I export the interactive PDF file... that I can read on my computer from any folder imported ....

If I open the same file on another computer, pdf see more a video but an image. (black and if the video had sounds... black image with a green line)

Also for the videos url, nothing works, it is necessary by indesign absolutely to be in http: and not https: (hum 2023).... on the other hand PFD https it is ok, but no connection is made on my site which is completely on.

I have an important need to make the integration of a video in the PDF with an automatic reading.

I'm experiencing the same issues. It seems Acrobat cannot handle any embedded videos and just crashes when trying to play those videos. I've tested it with different video files and it still happens. Please advise

We're running the most recent version of acrobat available Version 2019.012.20040 on Mac OS 10.14.6 on a 2019 iMac 3.6 Ghz Intel Core i9 with 63 GB of Ram, though at trade shows we run interactive presentations on Windows touch screens (We always request that their systems are up to date ). Disabling security isn't an option. We aren't authorized to do that here. This problem is happening with all pdf files I have tested recently. I will try some of the settings you suggest and take it from there.

I'm getting the same problem. In all interactive pdfs, when trying to play a video, I get this message "This PDF cannot be viewed in Acrobat or Reader, and the application will now exit." Then Acrobat quits. This is a MAJOR problem for our organization!
