Unable to create an Invisible Rectangle link

Hey ☺️

I'm desparately trying to figure out how to insert an "Invisible Rectangle" using Acrobat Pro (subscription).  All searches suggest I should find a "more" option under the "add content" menu.  I don't.  I only have "text" and "image".

I did manage to find an "add link" option when I highlight text,  however this only allows me to convert text to a hyper link (either to a webpage or to a page within the file), and does not offer the "invisible Rectangle" option.  I wouldn't mind using the hyperlink option, except that it is not compatible with the foreign language text I am trying to link and turns it into gibberish once I convert the text to a hyper link.

Please help?

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out to the community, and I’m really sorry for the trouble you're experiencing.

It sounds like you're trying to create a hyperlink using an Invisible Rectangle, but you're not seeing that option under the usual menus.

Here's how you can insert an Invisible Rectangle:

  1. Open your PDF in Acrobat Pro.
  2. Go to Tools > Edit PDF (make sure you're in editing mode).
  3. Now click on Link > Add/Edit Web or Document Link (you may need to expand the toolbar or look under “More” if it’s not directly visible).
  4. Your cursor will turn into a crosshair — draw a rectangle over the area where you want the link.
  5. In the pop-up window:
  • Set Link Type to: Invisible Rectangle
  • Choose the Action you want (e.g., open a webpage, go to a page view, etc.)
  • Click Next, and follow the prompts to set the destination.

This method doesn’t alter or affect the original text (including foreign language text), because the link is placed over the content rather than applied to it directly. It should prevent the character corruption you mentioned.
