Question

Unable to get free Adobe reader after a trial a Adobe pro

Hello,

Last week I tried a 7-day free trial of Adobe Pro to see the options offered with the paid version. After two days of using the free trial, I canceled it because the basic free version (Adobe Reader) suited me. Since canceling the free trial, I haven't been able to use Adobe Reader on my computer. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software several times. I also used the Adobe CC Cleaner Tool to try and fix the problem, but without success. I tried uninstalling it with Revo Uninstaller. This uninstallation worked and allowed me to reinstall Adobe Reader only. However, after a few hours, the software updates and reinstalls Adobe Acrobat. In my opinion, the problem seems to be with my account. Despite canceling the trial, it still seems to recognize that I have a paid Adobe subscription. So, I keep getting the pop-up window asking me to purchase the software. Do you have any suggestions for a solution? Thank you.

    Hi Anand,

    I followed the different steps.

Step 1 : No active plan or trial appears on my profile

Step 2 : I have deactivated all devices and browsers connected to my account.

Next, I restarted my device in order to launch the Adobe Cleaner tool.

Then I restarted again and proceeded to download the software using the link you provided.

The installation completed successfully. Adobe Reader worked. However, the software forces updates even though I haven't logged into a user profile. After each update, Adobe Reader reverts to Adobe Acrobat, and I get the same message stating that I need to purchase the software to use it.

I'm going to try everything again, but at first glance, it doesn't seem to have worked.

    Hello Benoit

Thanks for sharing the details. Please note that when you run the Clearner tool, it gives you the option to choose the apps you want to remove. Please select both Acrobat and Reader.

Restart the machine after running the cleaner tool.

For testing purposes, please create a test user profile with full admin rights, and install Acrobat Reader from the direct link and see if you still get the screen to upgrade.

Let us know how it goes.

    Regards,

    Anand Sri.

    Hello @tHiBoB,

I hope you are doing well. Thanks for reaching out, and we're sorry for the trouble you had.

After cancelling an Acrobat Pro free trial, Acrobat may continue to recognise the device as activated or signed in against the trial entitlement.
    When this occurs:

    • Acrobat installs or updates back to Acrobat (paid) instead of Reader

    • Reader launches but shows “Buy now / Start trial” prompts

    • Background updates reinstall Acrobat even after uninstalling Reader

Step 1: Confirm the trial is fully cancelled

    1. Go to Adobe Account > Plans https://adobe.ly/42qNrnb

    2. Make sure no Acrobat plan (trial or active) appears

    3. If anything is listed, cancel it fully

Step 2: Deactivate the device from your Adobe account

    1. Go to Adobe Account > Activated devices https://adobe.ly/4uE49v9

    2. Find your computer and select Deactivate

Restart the machine once after these steps, then use the Acrobat Cleaner tool to remove any related installation files of Acrobat and Reader, which may be causing the issue. Restart the machine again, and download the freeware Acrobat Reader from the direct link: https://adobe.ly/4uHuOY7

We have verified your Adobe ID (email) used to log into the community, and we see that the license/subscription for Acrobat has been cancelled on our end.

Please let us know how it goes after trying these steps.

    Regards,

    Anand Sri.
