Question

Unable to save to mapped drive during certain times of the day.

I have two users who are using acrobat to open pdfs from outlook and save them to a mapped drive on a file server.

During around 6am-11am when they try to save to the drive adobe acrobat will hang indefinitely. Sometimes it says not responding sometimes it just swirls until they close it out.

I have checked their permissions, they already had show online storage when saving disabled.

Print to pdf from acrobat to the drive is confirmed to work during the problem times. They want a better solution as it takes many more steps.

Need help.

Thanks

Hi ineedhelp123,

Thank you for reaching out.

Based on the behaviour described, where saving to a mapped/network drive fails only during certain times of the day, this is most commonly related to a temporary network interruption, security software interaction, file locking, or Acrobat’s handling of network-based saves rather than an issue with the PDF itself.

Please try the following suggestions:

  1. Test using the UNC path instead of the mapped drive. If the UNC path works consistently, the issue may be related to the mapped drive session refresh or network credential timing.

  1. Temporarily disabling Protected Mode Acrobat security settings can sometimes interfere with network locations

  • In Acrobat, go to Menu > Preferences > Security (Enhanced)

  • Uncheck the option “Enable Protected Mode at startup”

  • Restart Acrobat and test again

  1. Check endpoint security / VPN software: There are documented cases where security tools intermittently block Acrobat’s save/rename process on network shares. Since the issue happens only at certain times of day, it may coincide with:

  • Scheduled scans,

  • Network policy refresh,

  • Backup jobs,

  • DLP/security monitoring,

  • VPN reconnects.

  1. Test saving locally first: Save the PDF locally on the desktop and then copy it to the mapped drive.

  1. Add the network folder as a privileged location

  • In Acrobat, go to Edit > Preferences > Security (Enhanced)

  • Under Privileged Locations, add the mapped folder/network path.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Meenakshi

Tried UNC, Portected Mode, Privileged location, all with no success. Tried saving locally and copying with some success.

Hi ineedhelp123,

Thank you for the information.

As the above steps doesn’t resolve the issue, please share the following information to further investigate this issue:

  • A small video showing what happens.
  • Collect the logs for the workflow using the steps suggested here: Adobe Acrobat Diagnostics. Share the log ID created here with us.
  • Acrobat version number.
  • OS installed on machine.

We will share the detials to the team to get this reviewed.

Thanks,

Meenakshi
