Unique fields on copy and pasting that retain copied tab order?

Is there a way other than "create multiple copies" (which doesn't work well with my formatting) to copy and paste fields where the pasted version will, by default, have unique field names assigned? Is there also a way to retain the tab order from the copied fields?

I would say it's mind boggling that Adobe doesn't do this but I've worked with Adobe long enough to not be surprised at the lack of intuitiveness....
