Question

Update to Acrobat broke printing a 500 page document

An issue came up where we have a 500 page document to print from Acrobat and it will start sending the print job to the printer but the progress bar stops at around page 100 and only 10 pages actually print. This was not an issue just last month. Also, if I open the same PDF document just using built-in PDF support in Microsoft Edge and print it from there (to the same printer using the same print driver), it will send and print all 500 pages. Has something changed recently in Acrobat to cause this?

Hello,

Sorry for the delayed response and troubled experience.

Printing large PDF documents, such as a 500-page file, can sometimes lead to issues, especially after software updates. To address the problem, consider the following steps:

1. Update Adobe Acrobat:

Ensure you’re using the latest version of Adobe Acrobat, as updates often include fixes for known issues.

To check for pending updates, Launch Acrobat > Help > Check for Updates.

2. Update Printer Drivers:

Outdated printer drivers can cause compatibility problems. Visit your printer manufacturer’s website to download and install the latest drivers.

3. Print as Image:

Printing the PDF as an image can bypass rendering issues:

  • Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat.
  • Go to File > Print.
  • Click on Advanced.
  • Check the Print as Image box.
  • Click OK, then Print.

This method has been effective in resolving similar printing problems.

4. Split the Document:

Large documents can strain system resources. Splitting the PDF into smaller sections can help:

  • In Adobe Acrobat, select Organize Pages.
  • Choose Split and define the number of pages per file.
  • Save and print each section individually.
